Video Extend Quick Start for TikTok Ads| Van Gogh Studio

On this page

TikTok ads live or die by the first few seconds. You have a short clip that performs well, but it's too brief to tell the full story or to fit the platform's preferred ad lengths. Instead of reshooting, you can extend the clip while keeping motion continuity. This guide walks you through a practical workflow using Van Gogh Studio's Video Extend feature.

Why Extend Your TikTok Ads?

Short-form video is the norm on TikTok, but sometimes you need a few extra seconds to deliver your message. Extending a clip can help you:

Create a longer version of a winning hook without losing the original motion.
Adapt a 5-second clip into a 15-second or 30-second ad.
Maintain visual consistency when you need to add a call-to-action or more product context.

Rather than re-editing or regenerating from scratch, Video Extend lets you continue the motion naturally.

Video Extend vs. Regenerating from Scratch

You might be tempted to just generate a new video from your prompt. But that often results in a completely different look, breaking the visual identity of your ad. Video Extend keeps the original clip's motion and style, so the extended portion blends seamlessly. It's the smarter choice when you already have a clip you like.

Step-by-Step Workflow: Extending a TikTok Ad Clip

Here's how to extend a short clip for TikTok ads using Van Gogh Studio's Video Extend.

Step 1: Prepare Your Source Clip

Start with a clip that's at least a few seconds long. The better the quality, the better the extension. If your clip is low-resolution, consider upscaling it first using the Video Upscaler tool.

Step 2: Access Video Extend

Go to the Video Extend page on Van Gogh Studio. You'll see an option to upload your clip or select one from your previous generations.

Step 3: Upload and Set Parameters

Upload your clip. You'll be able to choose the extension duration and other parameters. Note that exact options depend on the model you select. Check the live model selector for current capabilities.

Step 4: Choose a Model

Van Gogh Studio gives you access to multiple models like Kling, Sora 2, Veo 3.1, and more. For TikTok ads, you might prefer a model known for smooth motion. Availability and parameters vary, so check the selector.

Step 5: Generate and Review

Click generate. The process takes some time, but you'll get a preview. Review the extended clip for continuity. If something looks off, you can adjust parameters and regenerate.

Step 6: Download and Use

Once satisfied, download the extended video. You can then upload it directly to TikTok Ads Manager.

Reusable Prompts and Parameter Tips

While Video Extend works on the visual content, you can guide the extension with text prompts. Here are some tips:

Describe the action: If your clip shows a person walking, you might prompt "continue the walk, keep the same lighting and background."
Mention the mood: "Maintain the energetic vibe, keep the camera movement steady."
Specify the end: "End with a product close-up."

Parameter tips:

Duration: Extend by 5–10 seconds for TikTok ads. Longer extensions may require more credits.
Resolution: If you plan to use the video across platforms, consider extending at a higher resolution.
Aspect ratio: TikTok supports vertical (9:16), but you can also extend for square or landscape if needed.

Common Pitfalls to Avoid

Ignoring the source quality: A blurry or shaky clip will produce a poor extension. Upscale or stabilize first.
Overextending: Extending a 3-second clip to 30 seconds may result in unnatural motion. Keep extensions reasonable.
Not checking model parameters: Different models have different limits. Always check the live selector.
Forgetting to review: Always preview the extended clip before using it in ads. Small glitches can hurt your ad's performance.

While Video Extend is great for lengthening clips, you might also need:

Video Upscaler: Improve the resolution of your source clips before extending.
AI Video Studio: Access 100+ effects and motion control to polish your ads.
Motion Control: Fine-tune camera movements for more dynamic ads.
