Short product clips are everywhere: a 5-second shot of a sneaker, a 3-second pour of a skincare serum, a 6-second unboxing. But most ecommerce ad placements need 15, 30, or even 60 seconds. Re-shooting is expensive, and manually looping looks cheap. That's where AI video extension comes in. In this guide, you'll learn how to take a short clip and extend it into a longer, natural-looking video in under 10 minutes using Van Gogh Studio's Video Extend feature.

Why Extend Instead of Re-Shoot or Loop?

You have three main options when you need a longer video:

Re-shoot: Costs time, money, and requires a studio setup. Not practical for quick iterations.
Manual loop: Free but often looks repetitive and jarring, especially with motion.
AI video extend: Uses AI to predict and generate continuation frames, keeping motion smooth and natural. It's fast, affordable, and works with your existing clips.

For ecommerce, AI extend is the sweet spot: you keep your original footage's quality and branding, but get a longer video that holds viewer attention.

Step-by-Step: Extend Your Product Video in Under 10 Minutes

Here's a practical workflow using Van Gogh Studio's Video Extend tool. The whole process takes less than 10 minutes, including upload and generation.

Step 1: Prepare Your Short Clip

Start with a clean, high-quality clip. It can be as short as a few seconds. Make sure the subject is well-lit and the motion is clear. If your clip is too dark or shaky, consider using the video upscaler first to improve quality.

Step 2: Upload to Van Gogh Studio

Go to freevideogenerator.io and sign in. New accounts get 21 signup credits, so you can try this without a credit card. Once logged in, navigate to the Video Extend tool.

Step 3: Choose Your Extension Length

Decide how long you want the final video to be. For example, if you have a 5-second clip and need a 15-second ad, you'll extend by 10 seconds. The tool will generate the additional frames.

Step 4: Select Your Model and Parameters

Van Gogh Studio gives you access to multiple AI models (like Kling, Sora 2, Veo 3.1, and more). For video extend, pick a model that handles motion well. You can also adjust parameters like resolution and aspect ratio. Note that availability and exact parameters may vary, so check the live model selector for the latest options.

Step 5: Generate and Review

Click the generate button. The AI will create the extended video, maintaining motion continuity from your original clip. This usually takes a few minutes. Once done, review the result. If it's not perfect, you can tweak the prompt or parameters and try again.

Step 6: Download and Use

Once you're happy, download the extended video. You can now use it in your ads, social posts, or website. If you need to adjust the aspect ratio or add effects, consider using the AI Video Studio for further edits.

Reusable Prompts and Parameter Tips

While Video Extend primarily works from the original clip, you can sometimes add a text prompt to guide the AI. Here are some tips:

Describe the continuation: If your clip shows a product spinning, you might add "continue the rotation smoothly."
Specify the mood: "Keep the lighting consistent and the background unchanged."
Use negative prompts: "Avoid sudden jumps or flickering."

For parameters, start with the same resolution and aspect ratio as your original clip to avoid cropping. If you need a specific output, like 9:16 for TikTok, you can set that, but the AI will adapt.

Common Pitfalls to Avoid

Using low-quality source clips: If your original is blurry, the extended part will be too. Upscale first if needed.
Extending too much at once: A 2-second clip might not extend well to 30 seconds. Try extending in smaller increments.
Ignoring motion continuity: If your clip has fast motion, the AI might struggle. Keep the motion steady.
Not checking the model selector: Different models have different strengths. Some are better for realistic motion, others for stylized. Check what's available.

Video Upscaler: Improve the resolution of your source clips before extending.
AI Video Studio: Add effects, trim, and combine videos after extending.
Motion Control: Fine-tune camera movement for more dynamic videos.
