Restaurant marketing is more visual than ever. In 2026, a 15-second promo video can do more for your weekend reservations than a month of static posts. But hiring a video crew is expensive, and DIY editing tools eat up hours. That's where AI video generation steps in. With the right platform, you can turn a simple text prompt or a photo of your signature dish into a polished promo clip in minutes. This guide walks you through creating a restaurant promo AI video for marketing in 2026, using the AI Video Studio from Van Gogh Studio (FreeVideoGenerator).

Traditional video production involves scripting, shooting, editing, and color grading. For a small restaurant, that's a lot of time and money. AI video tools let you generate footage from text or images, so you can create multiple variations for different platforms (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube) without reshooting. You can also update promos seasonally or for special events without a full production cycle.

Here's a practical workflow using the AI Video Studio. The studio gives you access to multiple AI models (like Kling, Sora 2, Veo 3.1, Runway, and more) in one place, so you can experiment with different styles.

Step 1: Define Your Goal and Key Message

Before you generate anything, decide what you want the video to achieve. Are you promoting a new menu item? A happy hour? A weekend brunch? Write down your core message in one sentence. For example: "Our wood-fired pizzas are the perfect Friday night treat." This will guide your prompt.

Step 2: Choose Your Input: Text or Image

You have two main options:

Text-to-video: Type a detailed description of the scene you want. This is great for conceptual shots, like a sizzling pan with cheese pull.
Image-to-video: Upload a photo of your actual dish or restaurant interior. The AI will animate it, adding motion like steam rising or a camera pan. This is perfect for showing your real food.

For a restaurant promo, a mix of both works well. Start with a text prompt for an establishing shot, then use image-to-video for close-ups of your dishes.

Step 3: Craft a Detailed Prompt

Your prompt is the most important part. Be specific about the subject, setting, lighting, and mood. Here's a template you can adapt:

"Cinematic close-up of a gourmet burger on a wooden board, juicy beef patty, melted cheddar cheese, fresh lettuce, soft natural lighting, shallow depth of field, steam rising, slow camera push-in, appetizing, high-end restaurant ambiance, 4k, photorealistic."

For a text-to-video prompt, include the style (e.g., "food commercial style"), the camera movement (e.g., "slow zoom"), and the atmosphere (e.g., "warm and inviting").

Step 4: Generate and Review

In the AI Video Studio, paste your prompt (or upload your image), select a model that suits your style (check the live model selector for current options), and set your duration and aspect ratio. Generate a preview. Review the output for quality and relevance. Don't expect perfection on the first try—AI is iterative.

Step 5: Iterate and Refine

If the first result isn't right, tweak your prompt. Add more details, change the lighting, or specify a different camera angle. You can also use the video effects and motion control features in the studio to adjust the output. For example, you can extend a clip or upscale it for higher resolution.

Step 6: Add Text and Music (Optional)

While the AI Video Studio focuses on video generation, you can easily add text overlays and background music using any simple video editor. Keep your text minimal—your restaurant name and a tagline like "Happy Hour 4-7 PM" are enough.

Reusable Prompts for Restaurant Promos

Here are three prompts you can copy and adapt:

Dish Close-Up: "Extreme close-up of a chocolate lava cake, warm chocolate flowing out, powdered sugar dusting, dark background, dramatic lighting, slow motion, dessert commercial style."
Restaurant Ambiance: "Wide shot of a cozy Italian restaurant interior, candlelit tables, brick walls, soft bokeh, warm evening light, empty chairs, inviting atmosphere, cinematic."
Chef Action: "Chef tossing a flaming pan in a busy kitchen, sparks flying, motion blur, professional cookware, high energy, documentary style."

Common Pitfalls to Avoid

Vague prompts: "A pizza" will give you a generic result. Be specific about the toppings, the crust, the setting.
Ignoring aspect ratio: Different platforms need different ratios. Check the platform's specs before generating.
Overlooking the free credits: New accounts get 21 signup credits, which is enough to test a few generations. Use them wisely to experiment.
Expecting perfection immediately: AI video is powerful but not flawless. Plan to iterate.
