Coaching businesses live and die by engagement. If your clients don't watch your videos, they won't absorb your lessons, and they'll churn. But creating consistent, high-quality video content is time-consuming and expensive. That's where an AI video generator can help. By turning your existing content into short, engaging clips, you can keep your audience hooked without burning out your production team.

In this guide, you'll learn a practical workflow to use an AI video generator—specifically the AI Video Studio on Van Gogh Studio (FreeVideoGenerator)—to create retention-focused videos for your coaching business. You'll get step-by-step instructions, reusable prompts, and common pitfalls to avoid.

Why Video Retention Matters for Coaches

Retention is the percentage of your audience that keeps watching your videos. High retention means your content is relevant, engaging, and valuable. For coaches, this translates to better client outcomes and fewer cancellations. But creating videos that hold attention is hard. You need to hook viewers in the first few seconds, deliver value quickly, and keep the pacing tight.

An AI video generator can help you repurpose your long-form content—like webinars, podcasts, or recorded coaching sessions—into bite-sized clips that are perfect for social media or email follow-ups. These clips can reinforce key points, remind clients of their goals, and keep your brand top-of-mind.

Step-by-Step Workflow to Create Retention-Boosting Videos

Here's a proven workflow using the AI Video Studio on Van Gogh Studio. The AI Video Studio is an all-in-one tool that lets you generate videos from text or images, apply effects, and iterate quickly.

Step 1: Identify Your Highest-Value Content

Start by reviewing your existing content. Look for moments that are:

Actionable: Tips or steps clients can apply immediately.
Emotional: Stories or testimonials that resonate.
Surprising: Insights that challenge common beliefs.

For example, if you're a business coach, a clip about "The #1 mistake founders make in their first year" is likely to get high retention.

Step 2: Write a Short, Punchy Script

For each clip, write a 30-60 second script. Keep it conversational and direct. Use the following structure:

Hook (0-5 seconds): Start with a bold statement or question.
Value (5-45 seconds): Deliver the core tip or insight.
Call to action (45-60 seconds): Invite viewers to comment, save, or book a call.

Here's an example script:

"Most coaches lose clients because they don't follow up. Here's the 3-step follow-up framework I use with my clients: First, send a recap within 24 hours. Second, ask one specific question. Third, share a relevant resource. Do this consistently, and your retention will soar."

Step 3: Generate Your Video with AI Video Studio

Now, head to the AI Video Studio on Van Gogh Studio. You'll see options for text-to-video and image-to-video. For this workflow, use text-to-video.

Paste your script into the prompt box.
Choose a model from the available options (like Kling, Sora 2, or Veo 3.1). Availability and parameters may vary, so check the live model selector.
Set the duration to around 30-60 seconds.
Select aspect ratio (e.g., 16:9 for YouTube, 9:16 for Instagram Reels).
Generate your video.

Note: Each video generation typically costs around 10 credits, but actual cost depends on the model, duration, and resolution. New accounts get 21 signup credits, so you can test without paying.

Step 4: Add Effects and Motion Control

To make your video more engaging, use the built-in effects and motion control features. For example:

Add a subtle zoom to emphasize key points.
Use a color grade to match your brand.
Apply a transition between scenes if you're combining multiple clips.

These enhancements can increase watch time by making the video visually appealing.

Step 5: Review and Iterate

After generating, watch the video critically. Does it hold your attention? Is the pacing right? If not, tweak your script or adjust the prompt. The AI Video Studio makes it easy to regenerate with new parameters.

Step 6: Export and Distribute

Once you're happy, export the video in high resolution. Then, share it across your channels: social media, email newsletters, or your client portal. Remember to include a clear call to action that drives engagement.

Reusable Prompts and Parameter Tips

Here are a few prompts you can adapt for your coaching niche:

For a motivational clip: "Create a dynamic video of a coach speaking to camera, with energetic background music and text overlays highlighting key phrases like 'You can do this.'"
For a tip video: "Show a split-screen: on the left, a coach explaining a concept; on the right, an animated diagram illustrating the steps."
For a testimonial: "Generate a video of a satisfied client sharing their success story, with a warm color palette and soft focus background."

Parameter tips:

Use a 9:16 aspect ratio for mobile-first platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels.
Keep the duration under 60 seconds to maximize retention.
Experiment with different models to find the one that best matches your brand's style.

Common Pitfalls to Avoid

Overloading the script: Too much information in 60 seconds will lose viewers. Stick to one key point.
Ignoring the hook: If the first 5 seconds don't grab attention, viewers will scroll past. Make your hook bold.
Skipping the call to action: Always tell viewers what to do next. This drives engagement and retention.
Using low-quality audio: If your video has voiceover, ensure it's clear. Poor audio is a major turn-off.
