Selling on Gumroad means your product page has to compete for attention in a split second. A static image can show what you offer, but a short video storyboard can show it in action—demonstrating the problem, the solution, and the payoff. The challenge? You don't have a film crew or animation skills. That's where AI image-to-video tools come in. With the right workflow, you can turn a few reference images into a compelling storyboard that sells your digital product, course, or template.

Why Use Image-to-Video for Gumroad Storyboards?

A storyboard is a sequence of shots that tells a mini-story. For Gumroad, it's perfect for product demos, explainer clips, or social teasers. Instead of writing a script and shooting footage, you can start with images—screenshots, mockups, or illustrations—and animate them with AI. This approach is faster, cheaper, and lets you iterate quickly.

Compared to text-to-video, image-to-video gives you more control over the look and composition. You define the starting frame, and the AI generates motion around it. That's ideal when you already have brand assets or product shots.

Step-by-Step Workflow with Van Gogh Studio

Van Gogh Studio (FreeVideoGenerator) offers an AI Text & Image to Video feature that supports multiple models. Here's how to build your storyboard:

Step 1: Prepare Your Reference Images

Gather 3–5 images that represent key moments in your story. For a Gumroad product, you might use:

A screenshot of your product's interface
A mockup of your ebook or template
A lifestyle image of someone using your product

Keep images clean, high-contrast, and free of text clutter (unless the text is essential). The AI will interpret the image, so clarity matters.

Step 2: Write a Short Prompt for Each Shot

For each image, write a prompt that describes the desired motion and mood. Be specific about camera movement, action, and atmosphere. For example:

"Slow zoom in on the dashboard, with subtle parallax effect, professional lighting"
"Hands typing on a laptop, the screen shows the template, soft natural light"

Step 3: Generate Your First Clip

Go to the AI Text & Image to Video tool on Van Gogh Studio. Upload your first reference image, paste your prompt, and select a model. Start with a short duration (3–5 seconds) to keep credits low. Generate and review the output.

Step 4: Refine and Iterate

AI is not perfect on the first try. Adjust your prompt, change the model, or tweak the image. For example, if the motion is too fast, add "slow, gentle movement" to your prompt. If the subject is distorted, try a different model or simplify the image.

Step 5: Assemble Your Storyboard

Once you have 3–5 clips, combine them in order. You can use any video editor—even free ones like DaVinci Resolve or iMovie. Add text overlays, background music, and transitions to create a cohesive storyboard.

Step 6: Export and Upload to Gumroad

Export your final video in MP4 format, ideally 1080p. Upload it to your Gumroad product page as a preview video. You can also share it on social media to drive traffic.

Reusable Prompts and Parameter Tips

Here are some prompt templates you can adapt:

Product Demo: "[Product name] in action, [specific action], high-quality, professional lighting, smooth camera movement"
Lifestyle Shot: "Person using [product] in a [setting], natural light, candid, shallow depth of field"
Abstract/Transition: "Abstract shapes morphing into [product], fluid motion, vibrant colors"

Parameter Tips:

Start with a short duration (3–5 seconds) to save credits.
Use a resolution of 720p or 1080p depending on your needs.
Experiment with different models—each has its own style and motion quality.
Check the live model selector for current options and parameters.

Common Pitfalls to Avoid

Overloading the image with text: AI often garbles text. Keep text minimal or remove it.
Ignoring the prompt: The prompt guides the motion. Vague prompts lead to random results.
Using low-quality images: Blurry or pixelated images produce poor videos. Use high-res references.
Expecting perfect physics: AI-generated motion can be unnatural. Embrace stylized movement or keep clips short.
Forgetting to check credits: Each video costs credits. Monitor your usage and plan accordingly.
