How to Create a UGC Ad Video Using Product Photos for App Promo

User-generated content (UGC) ads feel authentic and relatable, which is why they often outperform polished brand ads on social media. But hiring creators for every app promo is expensive and slow. If you already have product photos, you can turn them into UGC-style ad videos in minutes—no camera, no actor, no editing suite. This guide walks you through a practical workflow using Van Gogh Studio (FreeVideoGenerator) to transform static product images into engaging UGC ad videos for Meta and TikTok testing.

Why Use Product Photos for UGC Ads?

Product photos are a low-cost starting point. They already show your app's interface, features, or benefits. By animating them with subtle motion, adding a voiceover or text overlays, and applying a casual, handheld feel, you can mimic the look of a real user's video. This approach lets you test multiple ad variations quickly without a production budget.

Step-by-Step Workflow

Step 1: Prepare Your Product Photos

Select 3–5 high-quality screenshots or product images that clearly show your app's core value. For a promo, choose images that demonstrate a user problem and your solution. Crop them to a vertical 9:16 aspect ratio if possible—this fits Instagram Stories, TikTok, and Meta feed ads. Keep the files under 10 MB each for faster processing.

Step 2: Upload to Van Gogh Studio

Go to the UGC Ad Video tool and upload your images. You can also use the AI Video Studio for more control. The platform accepts image-to-video generation, so your photos become the first frame of your ad.

Step 3: Choose a UGC-Style Prompt

Write a prompt that describes the motion and feel you want. For example:

"A person's hand holding a smartphone, scrolling through the app, with a casual, shaky camera effect. The screen shows the product interface. Natural lighting, realistic, 4K."

Keep the prompt specific about the action and the camera style. If you want a voiceover, you can add it later using the platform's avatar or text-to-speech features.

Step 4: Generate and Review

Select a model from the live model selector (availability varies). Standard usage costs about 10 credits per video, but check the current pricing page for exact costs. Generate a few variations with different prompts or model settings. Review each output for realism and alignment with your brand.

Step 5: Add Effects and Enhancements

Use the AI Video Studio to add effects like motion blur, color grading, or a subtle zoom. You can also extend the video if you need a longer duration. The platform offers 100+ effects, so experiment with a few to make the ad feel more organic.

Step 6: Export and Test

Export your final video in the resolution and format required by your ad platform. Upload it to Meta Ads Manager or TikTok Ads Manager and run a small test. Compare performance against your other creatives to see if the UGC style resonates.

Reusable Prompts and Parameter Tips

• Prompt template: "[Action] on a smartphone, [camera effect], [lighting], [style]." Example: "A person tapping on the app icon, opening the app, with a slight zoom and natural window light, realistic."
• For a testimonial feel: "A person holding the phone, showing the app to the camera, with a friendly smile, casual background."
• For a demo feel: "Screen recording style, with a finger tapping and swiping, but with a subtle handheld shake."
• Parameter tips: Use a vertical aspect ratio for social ads. Lower resolution (e.g., 720p) can save credits if you're testing many variations. Use the motion control feature to add a gentle pan or zoom if the model supports it.

Common Pitfalls to Avoid

• Too many static frames: If your video looks like a slideshow, add more motion in the prompt or use the extend feature to create smoother transitions.
• Ignoring aspect ratio: If you upload landscape images, the output may be cropped awkwardly. Always crop to 9:16 before uploading.
• Overcomplicating the prompt: Long, complex prompts can confuse the model. Keep it simple and action-oriented.
• Not testing variations: UGC ads perform differently across audiences. Generate at least 3–5 variations to find the winner.
