AI Video for Ecommerce: Storyboard Tips and Step-by-Step Guide

Ecommerce product videos are no longer a nice-to-have—they're a conversion driver. But producing polished, on-brand videos for every product can eat up your budget and time. AI video tools have changed the game, letting you turn a simple product URL or a text prompt into a ready-to-publish video in minutes. The catch? You still need a solid storyboard to get results that actually sell.

In this guide, you'll learn how to storyboard and create AI videos for ecommerce using Van Gogh Studio (FreeVideoGenerator). We'll cover the step-by-step workflow, reusable prompts, and common pitfalls to avoid.

Why Storyboarding Matters for AI Video

AI video generators are powerful, but they're not mind readers. Without a clear storyboard, you'll get generic clips that miss your product's key selling points. A storyboard helps you:

• Define the visual flow: what the viewer sees first, second, and last.
• Align the AI's output with your brand's style and message.
• Save credits by avoiding multiple re-rolls.

Think of your storyboard as a mini-script for each scene. You don't need to be an artist—just describe the shot, the action, and the mood.

Step-by-Step Workflow for AI Ecommerce Videos

Here's how to go from a rough idea to a finished product video using Van Gogh Studio's AI Video Studio.

Step 1: Define Your Product's Core Message

Before you open any tool, write down one sentence that captures the main benefit of your product. For example: "This ergonomic chair supports your back during long work hours." This will be your north star for every scene.

Step 2: Break Your Message into Scenes

Divide your message into 3–5 visual beats. For the chair, you might have:

1. Close-up of the chair's design.
2. A person sitting and adjusting the lumbar support.
3. A shot of the chair in a modern office.
4. A final shot with the product name and tagline.

Keep each scene simple—one action, one focus.

Step 3: Write a Prompt for Each Scene

In Van Gogh Studio, you can generate video from text or an image. For each scene, write a detailed prompt that includes:

• Subject: the product and its key features.
• Action: what's happening (e.g., "a person adjusts the lumbar support")
• Setting: background and mood (e.g., "bright modern office, soft daylight")
• Camera: angle and movement (e.g., "close-up, slow push-in")

Example prompt for scene 2: "Close-up of a person's hand adjusting the lumbar support on an ergonomic office chair, bright modern office background, soft natural light, slow push-in, photorealistic."

Step 4: Generate and Review Each Scene

Go to the AI Video Studio, select your preferred model (availability varies—check the live selector), and generate each scene. Review the output. If a scene doesn't match your storyboard, tweak the prompt or use image-to-video with a product photo for more control.

Step 5: Edit and Combine Scenes

Once you have your clips, use the studio's editing tools to trim, rearrange, and add effects. You can also use the video extend feature to lengthen a clip if needed. Aim for a total video length of 15–30 seconds—enough to convey the message without losing attention.

Step 6: Add Text and Call-to-Action

Most ecommerce videos need a text overlay for the product name or a CTA like "Shop Now." Use the platform's text tools to add captions. Keep them short and legible.

Step 7: Export and Publish

Export your video in the resolution you need (check the platform's options). Then upload to your product page, social media, or ad platform.

Reusable Prompts and Parameter Tips

Here are three prompt templates you can adapt for your products:

1. Product Hero Shot: "[Product name] on a clean [background color] background, studio lighting, 360-degree rotation, photorealistic, 4K."
2. Lifestyle Scene: "[Product name] being used by a [person description] in [setting], candid, natural lighting, shallow depth of field, cinematic."
3. Feature Close-Up: "Macro shot of [specific feature], showing [detail], soft bokeh background, slow zoom, high detail."

Parameter tips:

• Use a consistent style descriptor (e.g., "photorealistic," "cinematic," "minimalist") across all scenes for a cohesive look.
• If you have a product image, use image-to-video to maintain brand accuracy.
• For motion, specify camera movements like "slow pan" or "orbit" to add dynamism.

Common Pitfalls to Avoid

• Skipping the storyboard: You'll waste credits on re-rolls. Always plan first.
• Overloading a scene: Too many actions confuse the AI. Keep it simple.
• Ignoring brand consistency: Use the same style and color palette across scenes.
• Forgetting the CTA: Make sure your video ends with a clear next step.
• Not checking model availability: Models and parameters change—always check the live selector.
