Pinterest rewards crisp, vertical videos. If you've ever uploaded a grainy clip and watched it underperform, the problem isn't your content—it's the resolution. This guide walks you through the exact export settings to use when upscaling videos for Pinterest, using the Video Upscaler on Van Gogh Studio (FreeVideoGenerator).
Pinterest's feed is visual-first. Videos that are blurry or pixelated get less engagement because they look unprofessional. Most phone footage is shot at 1080p or lower, and when you crop to Pinterest's preferred 2:3 or 9:16 aspect ratio, you lose resolution. Upscaling restores sharpness and detail, making your video look native to the platform.
You have two main options:
Upscaling is especially useful when you've downloaded stock footage or used AI-generated clips that are often lower resolution.
Here's how to get a Pinterest-ready video using Van Gogh Studio's Video Upscaler.
Start with the highest-quality version of your video. If you're exporting from an editor, choose a high bitrate (at least 10 Mbps) and avoid heavy compression. The upscaler works best when there's detail to recover.
Go to the Video Upscaler tool. Upload your video file. The tool accepts common formats like MP4, MOV, and AVI.
Select the upscale factor. For Pinterest, we recommend 2x. This takes a 1080p video to 2160p (4K), which gives you plenty of resolution headroom for cropping. If your source is 720p, a 2x upscale brings it to 1440p, which is still excellent.
After upscaling, you'll need to export at Pinterest's recommended resolution. For vertical videos, that's 1080x1920 (9:16) or 1080x1350 (4:5). If your upscaled video is larger, you can resize it in your editor or use the platform's export settings.
When you export the final video, use these settings:
These settings ensure fast loading and crisp playback on Pinterest.
Once exported, upload your video to Pinterest. Use a compelling cover image and a keyword-rich description to maximize reach.
If you're using AI video generation before upscaling, try these prompts to get a clean base:
When upscaling, avoid over-sharpening. A 2x factor is usually enough; 4x can introduce artifacts.
