Etsy sellers face a unique challenge: your product photos are beautiful, but static images rarely stop a scrolling shopper. UGC (user-generated content) style videos—the kind that look like a real customer filmed them—consistently outperform polished ads on Meta and TikTok. But hiring creators for every product is expensive and slow. This guide walks you through a practical workflow to create UGC-style ad videos for your Etsy shop using AI, with a focus on the first 3 seconds: the hook.

Why UGC-Style Ads Work for Etsy

UGC-style ads feel authentic and relatable. They show a real person using a product in a real setting, which builds trust. For Etsy, where buyers are looking for handmade, unique, or personalized items, this authenticity is gold. Instead of a glossy brand video, a quick clip of someone unboxing a custom necklace or using a hand-painted mug can drive clicks and conversions.

The Hook: Your First 3 Seconds

The hook is the first 3 seconds of your video. It must grab attention and make the viewer want to keep watching. Here are three proven hook formulas you can adapt for Etsy products:

The Problem-Solution Hook: Start with a pain point. Example: "Tired of losing your earrings?" Then show your product solving it.
The Curiosity Hook: Ask a question or tease something. Example: "You won't believe what's inside this package from Etsy."
The Social Proof Hook: Show a customer reaction. Example: "My friend just got this and I'm obsessed."

Step-by-Step Workflow with FreeVideoGenerator

FreeVideoGenerator (Van Gogh Studio) offers a UGC Ad Video feature that lets you create these videos without filming. Here's how to use it:

Step 1: Choose Your Product and Hook

Select the Etsy product you want to promote. Decide which hook formula fits best. For a personalized gift, the curiosity hook works well. For a practical tool, use the problem-solution hook.

Step 2: Write a Short Script

Write a 10-15 second script that includes the hook and a quick benefit. Keep it conversational, like a friend talking. Example: "I ordered this custom name necklace for my mom and she cried. The quality is amazing and it shipped fast."

Step 3: Generate Your UGC Ad Video

Go to the UGC Ad Video tool. Enter your script and select a style that matches your brand. The AI will generate a video with a realistic person speaking your script. You can also upload a product image to include in the video.

Step 4: Add Visuals and Effects

If you want to enhance the video, use the AI Video Studio to add effects like zoom, text overlays, or filters. Keep it simple—UGC style should look natural.

Step 5: Export and Test

Export your video in a vertical format (9:16) for Stories and Reels. Upload it to Meta or TikTok as a test ad. Create multiple variations with different hooks to see which performs best.

Reusable Prompts and Tips

When using the UGC Ad Video tool, you can provide a prompt to guide the generation. Here are three templates:

Problem-Solution: "A woman in her 30s holds up a pair of handmade earrings and says, 'I used to lose my earrings all the time, but these stay put.' She smiles and puts them on."
Curiosity: "A young man unboxes a package and pulls out a custom-printed mug. He says, 'Wait until you see what I got for my dad.' He reveals the mug and laughs."
Social Proof: "A woman shows a necklace to the camera and says, 'My best friend got this for me and I haven't taken it off since.' She touches the pendant."

Tip: Keep your script under 20 words for the hook. The AI works best with clear, concise instructions.

Common Pitfalls to Avoid

Overcomplicating the Script: UGC ads should sound natural. Avoid corporate jargon.
Ignoring the Hook: If your first 3 seconds are boring, viewers scroll past. Test multiple hooks.
Using Low-Quality Product Images: The AI uses your image, so make sure it's high-resolution and well-lit.
Not Testing Variations: Don't settle for one video. Generate 3-5 variations and test them.

Link to Video: Turn your Etsy product URL directly into a video ad.
AI Video Studio: Add effects, extend clips, and upscale your videos.
Video Effects: Apply filters and transitions to make your UGC ads pop.
