Dental clinics rely on video to build trust: patient testimonials, before-and-after smiles, procedure walkthroughs, and office tours. But footage shot on a phone or pulled from an older camera can look soft, grainy, or pixelated when posted on your website or social channels. A low-quality video undermines the professional image you’re trying to project. The solution is a video upscaler—a tool that enhances resolution and sharpness so your content looks crisp on any screen.

This guide walks you through a production checklist for upscaling dental clinic videos using the Video Upscaler on Van Gogh Studio (also known as FreeVideoGenerator). You’ll learn how to prepare your footage, upscale it effectively, and avoid common mistakes—all in a few straightforward steps.

Why Upscaling Matters for Dental Content

Before diving into the workflow, it helps to understand why upscaling is a critical step in your video production process. Dental videos often contain fine details—teeth texture, gum color, instrument reflections—that can be lost in low-resolution footage. When you upscale, you’re not just making the video bigger; you’re enhancing clarity, which directly impacts how patients perceive your care quality.

Compare two approaches: re-shooting everything in 4K versus upscaling existing footage. Re-shooting is expensive and time-consuming, especially for patient testimonials that you can’t easily recreate. Upscaling lets you repurpose existing assets, saving time and money while still delivering high-quality output. For most clinics, upscaling is the smarter choice.

Step-by-Step Workflow: Upscaling Your Dental Videos

Follow this checklist to upscale your dental clinic videos efficiently. The process is designed to be simple, even if you’re not a video editor.

Step 1: Gather Your Source Footage

Collect all the videos you want to upscale. This could include:

Patient testimonials (recorded on a smartphone)
Procedure clips (from intraoral cameras or older DSLRs)
Office tour videos
Before-and-after smile transformations

Organize them in a folder with clear names. Note the original resolution and format—this helps you decide which clips need the most attention.

Step 2: Choose the Right Upscaling Tool

Van Gogh Studio offers a dedicated Video Upscaler that enhances resolution and sharpness. You’ll find it in the AI Video Studio. This tool is designed to handle footage from various sources, including AI-generated videos and phone recordings.

To access it, log in to your Van Gogh Studio account. If you’re new, you’ll receive 21 signup credits—no credit card required—so you can try the upscaler risk-free.

Step 3: Upload Your Video

Once you’re in the Video Upscaler, upload your chosen clip. The interface is straightforward: drag and drop your file or browse from your device. Make sure your video is in a supported format (MP4, MOV, etc.) and under the file size limit.

Step 4: Adjust Upscaling Settings

After uploading, you’ll see options to adjust the upscaling. While the exact parameters may vary, you’ll typically be able to select the target resolution (e.g., 1080p or 4K) and possibly the enhancement strength. For dental videos, a moderate enhancement is usually best—too much sharpening can make teeth look unnatural.

If you’re unsure, start with the default settings. You can always preview the result and tweak if needed.

Step 5: Preview and Compare

Before finalizing, preview the upscaled video. Most tools allow you to compare the original and enhanced versions side-by-side. Look for:

Sharpness of fine details (teeth edges, gum lines)
Natural skin tones
No artifacts or halos around objects

If the result looks over-processed, reduce the enhancement strength and try again.

Step 6: Export and Save

Once you’re satisfied, export the upscaled video. Choose a high-quality output format (MP4 is recommended for web use). Save it to your computer or directly to your cloud storage. Remember that upscaling consumes credits—typically around 10 credits per video, but this can vary based on model, duration, and resolution. Check your credit balance before starting.

Step 7: Integrate into Your Content Workflow

Now that your video is upscaled, you can use it across your marketing channels: embed it on your website, post it on social media, or include it in email newsletters. For best results, pair it with other AI tools like video extend to create longer versions or motion control to add dynamic camera movements.

Reusable Prompts and Parameter Tips

While the Video Upscaler is mostly a one-click tool, you can optimize your results with these tips:

Use high-quality source footage: Even though upscaling improves resolution, it can’t create detail that doesn’t exist. Start with the highest resolution you have.
Stabilize shaky footage first: If your video is shaky, consider using a stabilization feature before upscaling. This prevents blurriness from being amplified.
Batch process similar clips: If you have multiple testimonials shot on the same phone, upscale them in one session to maintain consistency.
Check model availability: The Video Upscaler may offer different AI models. Availability can change, so check the live model selector in the tool to see what’s currently offered.

Common Pitfalls to Avoid

Even with a great tool, mistakes can happen. Here are the most common pitfalls when upscaling dental videos:

Over-sharpening: Cranking up the enhancement can make teeth look jagged and unnatural. Always preview and use a light touch.
Ignoring aspect ratio: If you upscale a vertical video to 4K, it may not fit your website’s layout. Plan the target resolution based on where you’ll publish.
Skipping the preview: Always preview before exporting. You don’t want to waste credits on a result that doesn’t meet your standards.
Forgetting about file size: Upscaled videos are larger. Compress them appropriately for web use to avoid slow loading times.

While the Video Upscaler is your primary tool for sharpening footage, Van Gogh Studio offers other features that complement your workflow:

Video Extend: If you have a short clip that needs to be longer, use the extend feature to add frames seamlessly. This is useful for creating longer testimonials or looping background videos.
AI Video Studio: This is your hub for all video editing needs, including effects, motion control, and more. Explore it to add professional polish to your upscaled videos.
Motion Control: Add subtle camera movements to static shots, making your dental videos feel more dynamic and engaging.
