TikTok ads demand fresh, engaging video content, but you don't always have time to shoot new footage. Maybe you have a high-performing clip that's too short for a full ad, or you want to repurpose a product demo into a longer narrative. Manually extending video is tedious and often results in awkward jumps or repetitive loops. That's where AI video extension comes in—it can smoothly continue your clip while keeping motion and context intact.

In this guide, you'll learn how to extend a video for TikTok ads in under 10 minutes using the Video Extend feature on Van Gogh Studio (FreeVideoGenerator). We'll cover the workflow, share practical prompts, and highlight common pitfalls to avoid.

Why Extend Video for TikTok Ads?

TikTok ads often perform better when they tell a story or show a sequence of benefits. A 15-second clip might not be enough to convey your message. Extending a video lets you:

Add a call-to-action at the end without cutting off the action.
Create a seamless loop for retargeting campaigns.
Repurpose a single product shot into a longer ad with multiple angles or scenes.

Manual editing tools like After Effects or Premiere require keyframing and masking to extend backgrounds—time-consuming and not always realistic. AI video extension automates this process, predicting what comes next based on the original footage.

Step-by-Step: Extend Your Video with Van Gogh Studio

Here's how to extend a video clip for TikTok ads in under 10 minutes. You'll need a short video (ideally 5–10 seconds) and a Van Gogh Studio account (free to start, no credit card required).

Step 1: Sign Up and Access the Video Extend Tool

Go to Van Gogh Studio and create a free account. New users receive 21 signup credits, which is enough to test the workflow. Once logged in, navigate to the Video Extend tool from the dashboard or the main menu.

Step 2: Upload Your Short Clip

Click the upload button and select your video file. The tool accepts common formats like MP4, MOV, and AVI. For best results, use a clip with clear subject movement and a stable background—this helps the AI predict motion accurately.

Step 3: Set Extension Parameters

You'll see options to control the extension. You can specify the desired output duration (e.g., extend to 30 seconds) and choose the extension direction (forward, backward, or both). Some models allow you to set a prompt that describes what should happen in the extended portion. For example, if your clip shows a person walking, you might prompt "continue walking forward."

Step 4: Choose a Model and Generate

Van Gogh Studio offers multiple AI models (like Kling, Sora 2, Veo 3.1, Runway, etc.)—availability varies and can change. Select a model that suits your video style. If you're unsure, start with the default. Click Generate and wait for the process to complete. Generation time depends on the model and length, but typically takes a few minutes.

Step 5: Preview and Download

Once the extension is done, preview the result. Check for smooth motion and logical continuation. If you're satisfied, download the extended video. If not, you can tweak the prompt or try a different model.

Reusable Prompts and Parameter Tips

To get the best extensions, use descriptive prompts that guide the AI. Here are some examples:

For a product demo: "Continue the camera panning around the product, showing it from different angles."
For a lifestyle clip: "The person continues walking toward the camera, then smiles and waves."
For a loopable ad: "Seamlessly loop back to the beginning of the clip."

Parameter tips:

Keep the original clip short (5–10 seconds) for faster processing.
Use a stable camera or tripod footage to reduce motion blur.
If you want a seamless loop, extend both forward and backward.

Common Pitfalls to Avoid

Over-extending: Extending a 5-second clip to 60 seconds might result in unnatural motion. Stick to 2–3x the original length.
Ignoring the prompt: The AI relies on your prompt to guide the extension. Vague prompts lead to random results.
Using low-quality source: Blurry or shaky footage will produce poor extensions. Use the highest quality clip you have.
Not checking model availability: Some models may not support video extend or have specific parameters. Always check the live model selector.
